i’m really not that angry

Just a quick recap of things that are pissing me off today…

1. Cheering for the Florida Gators. Tonight’s BCS Championship game presents a true moral dilemma for me. I have to rep the SEC, but it really hurts to support this vile group of boneheads… despite how great of a team they are this year. Tim Tebow… you better enjoy this while it lasts. And Gators still wear jean shorts.

2. Yesterday’s Moreno/Stafford announcement to enter the NFL draft. Expected, but it pisses me off nonetheless. I will not be bitter, and hope to see both Knowshon and Matty become wildly successful as pros (especially if I draft them on my fantasy teams in subsequent years). I am currently taking suggestions on how to cheer for Joe Cox without sounding like a dirty whore.

3. This article. Are we still that ridiculous and homophobic as a nation that we are willing to not only deny civil liberties, but to cut our nose off to spite our face? One of Obama’s platforms in the ‘08 election campaign was that he was going to repeal Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. According to the Newsweek article, “In a survey of active-duty service members released last week, 58 percent said they oppose any change in the military’s policy toward gays. Up to 23 percent of troops might not re-enlist if the law is repealed, according to a Military Times poll.” I am a huge supporter of our nation’s military and defense, but this sickens me. Sadder still, “the military has expelled at least 4,000 gay service members in recent years and 12,500 since 1993. At a time when Arabic linguists are in huge demand, around 80 have been discharged since 2003 for violating Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”

4. Almost getting kicked out of spin class last night. All seasoned athletes know that January is the worst month for maintaining our health. Thanks to New Year’s resolutions, gyms across America are packed to the gills as people resolve to “get healthier” and “not be lazy” and “workout.” (If you have seen Tommy Boy, this should be read in Chris Farley’s voice with quotation marks made using hand signals.) The place was so busy, there was even a wait 3 people deep to use the rowing machines (what the…?). And of course none of them actually knew how to row properly. Sigh. But apparently when it’s busy you’re supposed to “sign up” for spin. Every other time I’ve been, there’ve been approximately 5 people in the cycle studio, so I didn’t realize it would be an issue. I walked in, found a bike without a problem, and class began. About 10 minutes in, some lady comes in, can’t find a bike since class is full and fetches a gym manager who proceeds to kick people out who didn’t sign up because this lady who wanted to come in 10 minutes late did, in fact, sign up. Absolute tomfoolery. As I was clipping out of my pedals, someone else was forced out first, so I was lucky enough to make the cut this time. Phew.

Do not run for bad karma cover just yet. There are some things that are not pissing me off today too…

1. One final chance to enjoy college football! Ignoring Tebow’s involvement, I do adore an opportunity to watch NCAA players toss around a football. 8pm on Fox. It’s not American Idol, but it’s close. Yesss!

2. The birthweekend anticipation! A visit to Sweetwater Brewery tomorrow will kick off my birthday festivities for the weekend. It’s been awhile since I’ve visited one of my favorite watering holes (we’re talking way back when we still thought the Braves were going to have a good 08 season) so I’m excited. This shall begin a string of eating, drinking and being merry for 3 days. Hooray!

3. New Scrubs episodes and new season of American Idol! I really don’t watch tv that much, I promise. But I need something to watch while I force myself to do my 5 daily pushups. (Don’t you dare laugh… I might be kidding. And I might not.) And I need something to take the place of college football… so yay!

4. Requesting DMB tickets for 2 Atlanta shows in April! Through the Warehouse pre-sale, I just submitted a request for reserved seats for night #1, and will be sitting on the lawn with friends night #2. Not sure how good the seats will be yet, but I have a good chance of being pretty close. I’m pleasantly surprised they are choosing to play 2 shows in Atlanta (not so much that ticket prices cost an arm and a leg). After these shows, I’ll have attended 6 DMB shows in 10 months… which does sound ridiculous once I admit that publicly. And tomorrow is Dave’s birthday! And I am a huge geek!

[Official birthday countdown... T-minus 3 days]
